Pupils from Grangetown Primary School have led their community in a festive procession and singalong around the Christmas tree.
The Light up Grangetown celebration, held to kick-off the holiday season for residents of Grangetown, was organised by Grangetown Events Group, which partnered with FROG (Future Regeneration of Grangetown), Coast & Country Housing and Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
Despite the poor weather, local residents braved the elements to celebrate the start of Christmas, joining together in a chorus of well-loved carols and songs around the Christmas tree in Magnet Square.
Grangetown Event Group is made up of local residents who arrange events over the course of the year for the Grangetown community. This is the second year of the Christmas procession, which brings people together from across the community.
Pupils taking part in the parade were given reindeer dust by the events group and chocolate provided by local councillors and Coast & Country Housing.
Barbara Lowes of Grangetown Event Group, said: “Events like this are a great way to bring the community together. We’re really pleased to have held another fantastic event for the people of Grangetown and everyone is now in the Christmas spirit.”
Iain Sim, Chief Executive of Coast & Country Housing, said: “Coast & Country prides itself on building neighbourhoods and it’s always a pleasure to be able to support excellent local events like this. Everybody had a great afternoon and the children were brilliant!”
