Job Start Payment

The Job Start* payment is available to businesses based in the Tees Valley employing 50 people or less who recruit a new employee with the support of New Directions.
- New Directions can source and short-list candidates for you to interview based on your requirements
- Once you select an employee they can complete a one week unpaid trial before you confirm the job offer, as we pay their expenses
- New Directions supports businesses to give them time to make a decision and takes away the pressure to select a new employee based solely on interview.

Frequently asked questions
Can the employee be already working for me?
No, they must be a new employee referred by New Directions.
When do I get the payment?
After your new employee has completed their first four weeks of employment.
Do I have to use the Job Start payment towards their wages?
No, the payment is paid directly to your business and you can use it to offset any cost or time spent on your new employee.
Do I have to recruit a full-time employee?
No, you can recruit for any role in your business, even part-time as long as it is a minimum of 16 hours per week.
Can I claim multiple Job Start payments?
Yes - a maximum of three Job Start payments can be claimed by one business.
When is the deadline for claiming a Job Start payment?
January 2018, however payments are on a first come, first served basis and when all the payments have been distributed, applications will close.
